Several years ago I visited Tabasco. It impressed me as one of the wealthier states in southern Mexico, mostly because of the oil and cattle industries. This week it has become a catastrophic disaster zone – with every municipality reporting flooding. Even with the early efforts of the Mexican government, there are still about 300,000 people trapped by the flood. I’ve just made a donation to the American Red Cross, where you can direct your donation directly to benefit the people of Tabasco. To read more about it, here is a NY Times article “Mexico flooding traps thousands.” And here is a BBC picture album of the devastation.
