| PRAGUE [poster]
one of many promotional posters I designed for the NCSU Summer in Prague Program, which I attended in 1994. the experience added to my understanding of the world - and part of that richness is conveyed through the architecture. pictured here is the 13th c. St. Vitus Cathedral. the text plays off the building (or vice versa) connoting the relationship of the arts to all aspects of Czech life and integral to the Czech spirit.
on a side note, I found out the drink of preference for Czech intellectuals is red wine mixed with Coke. it became a favorite of mine during grad school and I will vouch for its stimulating abilities.

| WEWERKA [details]: broadside
explains and promotes the 3-legged asymmetrical "b-1" chair designed by German architect Stefan Wewerka. i was particularly interested in Wewerkas process > in which he questioned the activity of sitting and what the user did when seated - eat, talk on the telephone, etc. From this he concluded that the traditional 4-legged symmetric-al chair forced the user into often uncomfortable positions which were not conducive to human activity.
the b-1 chair was built by decon-structing two 4-legged chairs (R) and re-constructing these, adding a rounded back and edge for leaning or resting one's arm, elbow or hand. I found his approach innovative and refreshing - and believe it is critical to revisit the purpose and effective-ness of objects we utilize in our daily lives and affect how we live.

content-based, the broadside included a world timeline in contrast to Wewerkas work - which addressed environmental issues. other information presented includes the inspiration for the chair and asks us to question how we utilize an object for seating.

Booklet design to communicate process and historical context surrounding the mural's depiction of the Seminole, Black and White populations, and explaining their historical contribution to Fort Myers. The booklet's square format mimics the square tiles used to construct a mural.
The mural is a public art project by Barbara Jo Revelle, funded by the U.S. General Services Administration.
